Identify Your Values, Make It Your Norm
Our norms are what we are surrounded by and exposed to, our values are what we consider important. If there is a mismatch this can have a negative effect and may become a barrier to pursuing our goals.
Simple, Efficient, Effective.
Simple – easily understood or done, presenting no difficulty (minimal complexity)
Efficient – achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense
Effective – successful in producing a desired or intended result.
Pursue Excellence, Expect Effort
An expansion on ‘Lower Your Expectations, Not Your Standards.’
Pursue Excellence, not Perfection. First, we must define what excellence is for a given activity. Next, we must define what effort looks like when pursuing that excellence. Effort could be showing up and participating.
Master the Process, The Outcome is Inevitable
Mastery – The ability to reliably perform a task or skill to a high standard and adapt to the circumstances imposed upon them and demonstrate a deep knowledge and understanding in a domain. When we have mastered the process, we need only to act, and the outcome will be inevitable.
Accuracy and Precision – Reliably Good Or Occasionally Great
The approach you take to an accuracy problem may be different to a precision issue. Identifying the nature of a problem can inform what the most efficient pathway to improvement is and where the greatest consequences lie. Sometimes avoiding the negative is more important than increasing the positive.
Lower Your Expectations, Not Your Standards
Expectations – A strong belief that something will happen or be the case. Standards – a level of quality or attainment (a target or goal to maintain). Often when pursuing a goal or fulfilling our ambitions we will set standards and expectations for ourselves for good...
